Perceived needs and support services of families of people with dementia

Abstract Background Dementia is one of the most important causes dependency worldwide. These patients require constant care. This care mainly provided by families. Each family has specific needs and demands support services. To improve their quality life, should be considered in development strategies that contribute to provision services for them. Considering this, objectives this work are analyse these families, as well they access. Method The FQOLS‐NDs instrument (Badía et al., 2020) was applied telephone a sample 163 relatives people with dementia Spain‐Portugal cross‐border area. main characteristics research participants are: 69.9% women, aged between 28 87, do not (63.8%). They daughters/sons (59.5%) or partners (32.5%) person dementia. In addition, mostly carers (95.1%) live them (74.8%). Results findings reveal that: 1) needed families information about disease (53.4%); (52.8%), where get (44.8%). 2) Family members report being able access need. Among them, those which more than 80% have stand out. groups (92.3%), psychological help (90.3%), respite (85.5%) spending money (81.1%). 3) There few need consider sufficient to. positive data only 18.4% perceive receive sufficient; 16.3% enough run household, 12.8% claim legal rights.
